Journal Entry

March 17, 1839 ~ Sunday

17th Sunday I held a counscil in the morning with Elders B. Young & J. Taylor of the Twelve we then met with
the C[h]urch in Quincy. B. Young took the lead of the meeting & gave much important instruction there
was a Letter read from the committy in Far West praying the Brethren in Quincy to send teams & money
for the removing of fifty families of poor Saints from far west to Quincy there was a contribution
taken up for the purpose about $50 dollars & a number of teams to go. We then communed together &
the meeting closed & a council followed. I was called upon to state to the conuncil the procedings of the
conference in Springfield & after laying before them the procedings of that conference the council of

the Church in Quincy voted that Elder Jonathan Dunham be reproved for calling a conference in Springfield
but more esspecially for cherishing & fellowshiping that wrong spirit of Brewsters they also voted that
that Elder Dunham make confession & satisfaction to the Church in Springfield before he procede on his
Journey. The council then adjourned untill early candle light at which time they met & continued
untill midnight & then adjourned. I returned to Br Hales & spent the night

I had an interview with Elder ^President^ Brigham Young and John Taylor we held a meeting with the saints $50 and a number of teams was raised to bring out the remainder of the people from Missouri. I made a statement of the procedings of the Springfield Conference when the Church voted that Jonathan Dunham be reproved for calling a conference at Springfield and for cherishing the wrong spirit which Brewster possessed. President Brigham Young councilled that the Twelve as soon as possible immediately move their families to ^to locate their families in^ Quincy ^for the time being^ so they could be together in council

Sunday the I held a council in the morning with Elders Brigham Young and John Taylor of the Twelve. We then met with the Church in Quincy Brigham took the lead of the meeting. There was a letter read from the committee in Far West praying the brethren in Quincy to send teams and money for the removing of fifty families from Far West to this place. There was a contribution taken up for this purpose of about 50 dollars and a number of teams to go to the releif of the Saints in Far West. The next day I spent in visiting the Saints in Quincy. I called upon the family of brother Lyman Wight who was still in prison with Joseph Hyrum and others in Liberty Clay Co. Missouri. I here obtained my trunk which had been in the hands of sister Wight for several years On this day I also visited a number of families who had camped on the bank of the river. They were in a suffering condition in cold rain and mud and some suffered for the want of food as well.
