Journal Entry

September 02, 1840 ~ Wednesday

2nd I arose quite Ill with my complaint spent the
day mostly to my room. Elders Kimball & Smith went
in to the city to visit the people found some that
harkend to their testimony. London is the hardest
place I ever visited for esstablishing the gospel. It
is full of evry thing but righteousness, but we do
not feel discouraged in the least we are determined
in the name of the Lord to set up the standard of truth
in this city & to seek out the honest in heart & the
meek from among men & warn all as far as in our
power that the world may be left without excuse

Autobiography 1883 Tullidge's Quarterly Magazine
On the I was quite ill. I had been unwell for several days, but now I was obliged to keep to my room; but Elders Kimball and Smith went into the city to visit the people and found some who hearkened to them favor- ably. We had by this time found that London was the hardest place for a mis- sion that we had ever undertaken, but we did not feel discouraged in the least, and were determined in the name of the Lord to set up the standard of the King- dom in that city.
