"We Have Entered into a Covenant with Him"

John the Baptist Baptizing Jesus by Harry Anderson

After Alma taught the people near the Waters of Mormon, they wanted so badly to enter into a covenant relationship with God that “they clapped their hands for joy, and exclaimed: This is the desire of our hearts” (Mosiah 18:11). They knew that making covenants would lead to their eternal happiness and exaltation if they were faithful.

Do we remember the significance of the covenants that we have made? Beginning with baptism and confirmation, we make promises with the Lord, and He in turn blesses us. Our covenants are incredible gifts from God that provide guidance, peace, and so much more when we are faithful to Him.

President Henry B. Eyring taught, “The Latter-day Saints are a covenant people. From the day of baptism through the spiritual milestones of our lives, we make promises with God and He makes promises with us. He always keeps His promises offered through His authorized servants, but it is the crucial test of our lives to see if we will make and keep our covenants with Him.”

If we keep our promises with the Lord, He will always bless us with His strength and a greater capacity to do His will. He will bless us to be happy in this life and in the life to come. As President Wilford Woodruff taught, “We can enter into the glory of God, be face to face with the Heavenly Father, if we keep the covenants.”

Lyndie is working toward a degree in Public Relations at Brigham Young University. Originally from Idaho Falls, Idaho, she enjoys running, spending time with her husband and family, and reading. Lyndie served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hermosillo, Mexico, where she developed a love for the Spanish language and the people there. She was drawn to the Wilford Woodruff Papers out of a desire to learn more about Church history and enjoys being part of the organization’s efforts to touch lives with Wilford Woodruff’s words.
