Smithfield
My Dear Father
I am pleased
to learn that you are in
the City and hope and pray
that the way will open for
you to come and see us I
hope that the speedy journey
you have taken will not
make you sick I am
trying to thresh but it
is very up hill business as
there is not many Machines
I expect you did not receive
the letter I sent to Fillmore
we are all pretty well at
present. I sincerely hope you
will get a chance to get
rested from your journey
The Death of our Priesident
was very sudden to me for I
had no knowledge of his being
dangerously sick until I heard of
his death my kind love to all
hoping this will find you all well
